Sphinx Summoner enters the battlefield and immediately replaces itself with any artifact creature in your library — a tutor stapled to a 3/3 flier for five mana. In Sharuum the Hegemon builds, that effect is rarely situational; it's the engine.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Sharuum the Hegemon
Sharuum the Hegemon is an artifact creature herself, which means Sphinx Summoner can fetch her out of the library as a backup, but the real loop is the reverse: Sharuum reanimates Sphinx Summoner, which tutors the next piece of whatever combo you're assembling.

Commander is where Sphinx Summoner earns its keep — five mana for a tutor is a steep rate in faster formats, but singleton rules make the tutoring effect genuinely valuable, and artifact-creature synergy commanders turn the body into a bonus rather than the cost. In Legacy and Vintage, the competition is too stiff: Fabricate finds any artifact for three mana at sorcery speed, and Trinket Mage or Trophy Mage hit specific slots more efficiently. Sphinx Summoner is legal in both but sees essentially no play there. Commander is its real home, and even there it's a role-player in artifact-combo shells rather than a universal include.

Price Context
Current price
$0.36 bulk tier
At $0.36, Sphinx Summoner is bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or in a common box. Bulk artifact synergy pieces rarely spike unless a new commander pushes the archetype hard, so don't expect the price to move.
