Sphinx of Magosi is a 6/6 flying beater that draws a card on attack and can sink mana into growing itself — real on-board presence, real ceiling. The problem is six mana for a vanilla-until-it-attacks threat that dies to any removal before you ever see a card.

Sphinx of Magosi is a Commander card through and through — six mana is acceptable in a format where the game goes long and evasive creatures with built-in value are welcome. In Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer, a six-mana creature that requires attacking to draw is unplayable; those formats kill you before it untaps. Vintage has better things to do with six mana. Commander is where Sphinx of Magosi finds its home, but even there it competes against cheaper blue sphinxes and draw engines that don't need to connect to function.
