Sphinx of Lost Truths lands as a 3/5 flier that draws three cards — the kicker cost determines whether you discard one of them back, and at full price you keep all three. Five mana unkicked is a mediocre rate; six mana kicked is the version worth running.

Commander is where Sphinx of Lost Truths earns its slot, specifically in blue decks that want bodies in the air alongside card advantage — Isperia builds, Azorius tempo, and any shell that cares about Sphinxes by tribal count. In Legacy and Vintage, a six-mana sorcery-speed draw-three that requires a body on the battlefield to execute is simply outclassed by Brainstorm, Ponder, and faster cantrips; it will never see competitive play there. Modern has the same problem at a less extreme scale — the rate doesn't clear the bar. Sphinx of Lost Truths is a Commander card through and through, and even there it competes with Consecrated Sphinx and Rhystic Study for the same slot budget.

Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Sphinx of Lost Truths sits firmly in bulk territory — you're not buying this for financial upside, you're buying it because it's cheap enough to slot into any blue Commander deck without a second thought. Bulk rares at this price tend to stay flat; don't expect movement.
