Sparkshaper Visionary

Creature — Human Wizard

At the beginning of combat on your turn, choose any number of target planeswalkers you control. Until end of turn, they become 3/3 blue Bird creatures with flying, hexproof, and "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, scry 1." (They're no longer planeswalkers. Loyalty abilities can still be activated.)

Sparkshaper Visionary card art
Sparkshaper Visionary turns every planeswalker activation into a scry-and-draw trigger, which is a significant engine in any deck running five or more walkers. Commodore Guff decks in particular want it badly — the cost is three mana and a slot, and the return is card advantage that compounds every turn.

Commodore Guff runs enough planeswalkers that Sparkshaper Visionary fires multiple times per turn cycle, converting the loyalty-counter engine into a steady draw engine and keeping your hand full while the walkers tick toward ultimates.

Sparkshaper Visionary is a Commander card through and through — planeswalker-dense strategies are far more common in the 100-card singleton format than anywhere else, and that's where it earns its slot. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal, but three mana for a conditional draw effect doesn't clear the bar in those formats, where tempo and raw power density leave slow synergy pieces on the shelf. Oathbreaker is the one other home worth mentioning: a planeswalker commander means Sparkshaper Visionary is active the moment your commander lands, making it a reliable two-card engine from turn one.

Price Context

Current price

$0.18 bulk tier

At $0.18, Sparkshaper Visionary is deep bulk — you're picking it up for essentially nothing. Bulk rares with narrow applications rarely appreciate, so treat it as a cheap role-player to slot in rather than a spec.
