Soul of Theros turns a wide board into a lethal one in a single activation — every creature you control gets +2/+2 and lifelink until end of turn for six mana, and you can do it again from the graveyard for seven. The body is serviceable at 6/6 vigilance for six, but the reason you play Soul of Theros is that second line: paying seven to rebuy the anthem effect from your graveyard makes this card almost impossible to strand.

In Commander, Soul of Theros is a legitimate finisher in go-wide strategies — the graveyard reactivation means removal only delays it, and a single attack with eight or more creatures often ends the game on the spot. In Modern and Pioneer it's simply too slow; six mana for a single-use anthem without reliable recurrence doesn't compete with the format's density of interaction. Legacy and Vintage are even less hospitable — the mana cost alone rules it out. Soul of Theros lives and dies in Commander, where the graveyard clause matters, the life totals are high enough that mass lifelink swings games, and six mana is achievable.
