Soratami Savant offers repeatable counterspell access stapled to a 2/1 flier, but the cost — bouncing a land you control to counter a spell — is steep enough that you'll rarely break even on tempo. Outside of dedicated land-bounce synergy decks, it's outclassed by nearly every other blue counterspell option.

In Commander, Soratami Savant sees fringe play in decks that actively want to return lands to hand — Patron of the Moon, Meloku the Clouded Mirror, or Shorikai, Genesis Engine builds that abuse land-bounce triggers. In Legacy and Vintage, the land-bounce cost is a non-starter; hard counterspells and pitch spells do the job without costing you board position. Modern has enough cheap interaction that Soratami Savant never competes. The card is legal in Oathbreaker and works in the same narrow niche there, but the format's speed punishes the setup cost even harder.
