Sonic Burst deals damage equal to the number of cards in your hand to any target — potent in a full-grip situation, dead weight when you're topdecking. It's too conditional to rely on as removal, and the discard-a-card rider makes the math punishing exactly when you can least afford it.

In Commander, Sonic Burst occupies a narrow slot: it can spike for 7–10 damage in a hand-refill deck, but the discard cost and inconsistency make it hard to justify over unconditional burn. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more efficient spells and wouldn't touch it.
