Creature — Spirit
Whenever you cast a Spirit or Arcane spell, target land becomes a 3/3 creature until end of turn. It's still a land.

Soilshaper turns every instant or sorcery you cast into a temporary 3/3 land — real board presence stapled to spells you were already playing. The catch is the "until end of turn" clause: those lands revert at cleanup, so you're winning through combat that turn or not at all.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Soilshaper fits cleanly into spell-slinger or lands-matter strategies that already want a critical mass of instants and sorceries — it asks nothing of your deckbuilding beyond what those decks do anyway. Legacy and Vintage are theoretically legal, but a three-mana 1/1 with a temporary upside competes against formats where the bar for creatures is brutally high, so it sees no meaningful play there. Modern is the same story: the effect is real but too slow and fragile for a format that can answer a 1/1 before it ever generates a trigger. Soilshaper belongs in Commander, and specifically in blue-green or Temur spell-heavy builds where casting four instants on your turn converts four lands into a lethal attack.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Soilshaper is pure bulk — a pickup cost that's basically rounding error. Bulk rares with niche Commander applications rarely climb unless a powerful commander pushes exactly their mechanic into the spotlight, so treat the price as stable rather than investment-grade.
