Slithery Stalker enters as a 1/1 Nightmare Horror that can sacrifice a Swamp to steal a target creature's power and toughness — a repeatable stat-drain that scales with your opponents' best threats. The setup cost of sacrificing lands is real, but in dedicated Swamp-matters or reanimator shells, the ceiling is high enough to justify the slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Slithery Stalker does its best work — black-heavy decks running Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth can fuel sacrifices without losing colored mana production, and recursion tools mean losing the Stalker to removal isn't terminal. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is legal but simply too slow and too conditional for formats where speed and raw card power dominate. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: viable in the right shell, irrelevant outside it.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Slithery Stalker sits firmly in bulk territory — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in rather than a targeted buy. Bulk rares rarely appreciate unless a new commander or mechanic pushes them into demand, so treat this as a cheap experiment, not a hold.
