Slippery Bogbonder enters and moves all counters from any number of permanents onto a creature you control, then gives that creature hexproof — it's a counter consolidator and protection spell stapled together for four mana. In counter-heavy builds like Hallar, the Firefletcher or Me, the Immortal, that instant-speed combination of acceleration and insurance does real work.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Me, the Immortal
Me, the Immortal's engine runs on stacking counters to copy permanents, and Slippery Bogbonder lets you collapse counters from multiple sources onto one creature mid-combat while locking it down with hexproof — protecting the exact permanent you're about to duplicate.

Skullbriar, the Walking Grave
Skullbriar, the Walking Grave accumulates counters across zones, making it a permanent target for removal; Slippery Bogbonder gives Skullbriar instant-speed hexproof at the moment it matters most, while also pulling any stray counters from the board onto the commander.

Kathril, Aspect Warper
Kathril, Aspect Warper wants one creature loaded with every keyword counter in the deck, and Slippery Bogbonder does exactly that — consolidating counters from across the board onto Kathril and then protecting the finished product with hexproof.

Owen Grady, Raptor Trainer // Blue, Loyal Raptor
Owen Grady, Raptor Trainer // Blue, Loyal Raptor spreads +1/+1 counters across a Dinosaur board, and Slippery Bogbonder serves as a finisher setup piece — funneling that distributed power onto one threat before the alpha strike while denying opponents an answer to it.

Kosei, Penitent Warlord
Kosei, Penitent Warlord needs counters to trigger its combat damage multiplier, and Slippery Bogbonder can top off Kosei at instant speed while preemptively blanking removal before the attack step.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Slippery Bogbonder belongs — the counter-heavy permanents and multiplayer threat density of the format play directly into both halves of the card. It's legal in Legacy and Vintage as well, but those formats offer no meaningful counter synergies at competitive speed, and a four-mana flash creature with no immediate board impact is simply too slow there. Oathbreaker gives it a narrower home if the signature spell generates counters, but the card pool is tighter and the consistency lower than Commander. Outside of +1/+1 counter synergy decks in Commander, Slippery Bogbonder is a draft curiosity at best.

$4.51 cheap tier
At $4.51, Slippery Bogbonder sits at the high end of the cheap tier — fair for a card that sees inclusion in over 75% of Me, the Immortal and Skullbriar, the Walking Grave decks. Its price is unlikely to move dramatically in either direction given the narrow but loyal commander audience it serves.
