Slab Hammer gives a creature +2/+2 until end of turn and untaps a land when it deals combat damage to a player — a reasonable combat trick stapled to mana recovery, but the equip cost makes it slow enough that most decks don't want it. It earns a slot only in strategies that can exploit the untap trigger repeatedly, like landfall or land-matters shells where that bonus mana does real work.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Slab Hammer is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees virtually no competitive play in any of them. In Commander, it has a narrow home in landfall commanders who can convert the untapped land into a triggered ability — think Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait or Kodama of the East Tree, where one extra land drop can cascade into real value. Everywhere else, the equip cost and the conditional trigger make it too slow and too fragile to justify a slot over straightforward pump or ramp.

At $0.07, Slab Hammer is deep bulk — you'll find it in a common box before you'd bother ordering it. Price stability is irrelevant at this tier; pick it up for a quarter or not at all.
