Skyward Spider trades a 3/4 reach body for a scry 2 on entry — reasonable stats that block flyers and a minor selection effect attached. At four mana in green, it competes with ramp spells and better threats, and it doesn't clear that bar.

Skyward Spider is a casual Commander card and nothing more. In competitive 60-card formats — Modern, Pioneer, Legacy — a four-mana 3/4 with scry 2 and no immediate board impact is unplayable when format-defining threats cost the same or less. Even in Pauper, where commons fight for slots, the card is too slow and too low-impact to compete with dedicated removal or card draw at the same cost. In Commander it finds its most forgiving home, where reach bodies can meaningfully block evasive threats and scry 2 is worth something in a singleton format — but even there, Skyward Spider sits near the bottom of the consideration set for any deck not specifically synergizing with Spiders or Reach.
