Skyshroud Cutter puts a 4/3 on the board for free — zero mana — as long as an opponent gained life this turn. The catch is real: that condition isn't always in your control, so Skyshroud Cutter belongs in decks built to guarantee it, not as a generic beater.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Skyshroud Cutter earns a slot in life-gain-matters decks where opponents are reliably padding their totals — Oloro, Ageless Ascetic tables or any pod running Soul Warden effects will often hand you a free 4/3 on turn one or two. Outside of dedicated synergy shells, the condition is too unreliable to justify the slot. In Pauper it's a legal curiosity, but a 4/3 with a conditional zero cost doesn't map cleanly onto any established archetype in the format. Legacy and Vintage have access to it, but neither format has any reason to reach for a conditional free creature when the redundancy and power level requirements far exceed what Skyshroud Cutter offers.

$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Skyshroud Cutter is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard and sleeve space, not market value. It won't hold or gain value, but if the synergy fits your deck, the financial downside is essentially zero.
