Skycloud Egg taps for one colorless, then sacrifices to filter that colorless into a white or blue mana — a two-step process that costs you tempo every time you need colored mana. Slower than a basic land, worse than a signet, and only worth sleeving in decks that specifically reward egg sacrifices or artifact enters-the-battlefield triggers.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Skycloud Egg sees any real play, and even there it's a narrow inclusion. The tap-then-sacrifice structure is too slow for Legacy or Vintage, where mana efficiency is paramount and far better fixers exist. In Commander, Skycloud Egg earns its slot only in artifact-matters builds — decks that count artifacts entering the battlefield or reward sacrifice fodder — not as generic ramp. Oathbreaker is legal but the same logic applies: the format's smaller deck size makes every slot more contested, and Skycloud Egg rarely makes the cut.

Price Context
Current price
$0.34 bulk tier
At $0.34, Skycloud Egg is firmly bulk — cheap enough to throw in without hesitation if you have a use for it. Demand is too narrow to expect the price to move in either direction.
