Shrouded Lore lets you repeatedly recover key cards from your graveyard by forcing an opponent into a guess they'll eventually lose — every wrong call means you get the card back. The catch is that every right call costs you a mana to try again, and against sharp opponents the loop can stall.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Shrouded Lore does its best work — with three opponents at the table, the guessing game spreads across multiple players and the probability of anyone calling correctly every single time drops sharply, making recursion far more reliable than in one-on-one. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but practically invisible; both formats move too fast for a recursive grind that requires repeated mana investment and opponent cooperation. Oathbreaker can mirror the Commander upside in multiplayer pods, though the smaller deck size makes it a niche include at best.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Shrouded Lore is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a dollar box rather than order. That price is stable by inertia rather than demand, and there's no pressure pushing it upward.
