Shrieking Specter forces a discard every time it attacks, stapling repeatable hand disruption onto a flying body for two mana. The effect is real, but three power means it trades with almost anything, and in Commander you're pressuring one player at a time in a four-player game — the math rarely works out.

In Commander, Shrieking Specter fits narrowly into dedicated discard-matters builds — Tinybones, Kroxa, or Tergrid shells where each forced discard compounds a larger plan. Outside that context, pressuring one opponent per attack cycle is too slow for a four-player table, and the body doesn't survive combat long enough to recoup the slot. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is legal but irrelevant — those formats have faster, more reliable discard engines and no patience for a three-power flier that needs to connect to do anything. Shrieking Specter is a Commander card in practice, and even there it's a role-player rather than a staple.

Price Context
Current price
$0.95 bulk tier
At $0.95, Shrieking Specter sits at the top edge of bulk, which is about right for a narrow role-player. It won't climb — there's no crossover demand from competitive formats and the effect is too situational to drive Commander staple pricing.
