Shatterskull Charger card art
Shatterskull Charger hits the board as a trampling threat that scales with your land count, threatening meaningful damage the turn it enters if you're ahead on mana. The cost is setup dependency — without lands to spare, it's just a vanilla beater, and Aegar, the Freezing Flame is the rare commander that turns its excess-damage clause into a card engine.

Aegar, the Freezing Flame

18.6% of decks · synergy 0.18

Aegar, the Freezing Flame draws a card whenever a Giant or a spell deals excess damage to a creature or planeswalker, and Shatterskull Charger's trample means almost every combat where it outclasses a blocker triggers that draw — making it a consistent engine piece rather than a generic beatstick.

Shatterskull Charger is a fringe Commander card, almost exclusively in Aegar, the Freezing Flame builds where the excess-damage synergy is relevant enough to justify the slot. In Modern and Pioneer it has never found a home — the statline isn't competitive at three mana even with trample, and the land-count scaling requires a dedicated ramp shell that those formats don't support at this slot. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it. Commander is the correct and essentially only format for Shatterskull Charger, and even there it's a role-player in one specific deck rather than a broadly playable card.

Price Context

Current price

$0.30 bulk tier

At $0.30, Shatterskull Charger sits firmly in bulk territory, which accurately reflects its narrow demand. Bulk rares with a single-deck home don't appreciate — pick it up for your Aegar build without a second thought, but don't expect the price to move.
