Shared Roots card art
Shared Roots enters the battlefield and immediately starts converting your basics into card advantage — every Forest or Plains you play draws you a card, turning your land drops into a sustained engine. At two mana, Iroh, Grand Lotus decks run it in over 80% of builds for good reason: the cost-to-output ratio is flat-out better than most enchantments at this slot.

Commander is where Shared Roots does its real work — a two-mana enchantment that draws cards on basic land drops is a slow engine, and the 100-card singleton format gives it enough game length to generate three, four, or five draws in a single game. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern or Pioneer, it's too conditional and too slow; you're not reliably triggering it more than once or twice before the game ends, and dedicated draw spells do far more for less setup. Legacy and Vintage have better options at every turn. Shared Roots is a Commander card through and through, and the format-legality breadth is a red herring — the only place it earns its slot is the long-game singleton format where land drops keep coming.

Price Context

Current price

$0.78 bulk tier

At $0.78, Shared Roots sits firmly in bulk territory, and the price reflects its narrow home in Avatar-themed Commander builds rather than broad format demand. It holds that floor as long as Iroh, Grand Lotus and the related commanders stay popular — don't expect movement in either direction.
