Shaper Parasite is a flash 2/3 that permanently pumps or shrinks a creature's power and toughness by two — relevant stats on a body that can ambush an attacker. The flash clause does real work, but a three-mana 2/3 with a one-time effect is asking a lot in any competitive context.

In Commander, Shaper Parasite is a fringe include — the permanent +2/+2 or -2/-2 is real, but the effect is narrow for a three-mana slot that competes with far more impactful flash threats. In Pauper, where the card pool is restricted to commons, it has the most legitimate case: the flash ambush blocker role is genuinely useful and the permanent shrink can outright kill small utility creatures. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — Shaper Parasite doesn't come close to the power threshold those formats demand. Modern is similarly uninterested; three mana buys much better tempo plays. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander read: fine in a dedicated counter shell, invisible everywhere else.
