Shagrat, Loot Bearer
Legendary Creature — Orc Soldier
Whenever Shagrat attacks, attach up to one target Equipment to it. Then amass Orcs X, where X is the number of Equipment attached to Shagrat. (Control of the Equipment doesn't change. To amass Orcs X, put X +1/+1 counters on an Army you control. It's also an Orc. If you don't control an Army, create a 0/0 black Orc Army creature token first.)

Shagrat, Loot Bearer turns your creatures dying into a loot engine — every nontoken creature that dies draws you a card and pitches one, which in a creature-heavy deck adds up fast. The cost is that it does nothing until things start dying, so it's dead weight against pillowfort or stax strategies that prevent combat entirely.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

Commander is where Shagrat, Loot Bearer actually lives — 100-card singleton games go long enough that recurring loot over many turns compounds into real card selection, and the format's creature-heavy metagame means the trigger fires often. In Legacy and Vintage it's a non-starter; those formats don't have the time or patience for a three-mana 3/3 that requires creatures to die before it does anything. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's multiplayer dynamics that Shagrat, Loot Bearer can function there, but the smaller deck size and faster games compress the window for incremental value.

Price Context
Current price
$0.67 bulk tier
At $0.67, Shagrat, Loot Bearer sits firmly in bulk territory, which is appropriate for a card with a narrow but real niche. The price is stable — it's not a card that spikes, but it also doesn't need to be when you're picking it up as a role-player in a sacrifice or death-trigger shell.
