Shade of Trokair is a passable early blocker that can grow into a real threat — but only if you're flooding white mana into it every turn, which is a steep ongoing tax. The suspend cost makes it cheap to deploy early, and a big flying shade can close games, but white pump spells and better threats have long since left it behind.

Shade of Trokair is a bulk common in every format that matters, and nowhere is that more apparent than Commander, where a 2/2 flyer with a mana-sink ability competes against threats that generate immediate value or win the game outright. In Pauper, the suspend line is at least interesting — a free-ish turn-one play that grows — but the format has enough cheap efficient creatures to make Shade of Trokair a fringe choice at best. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; the card doesn't approach the power threshold those formats demand. If you're running it anywhere, Pauper is the only context where the suspend cost does real work.

$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Shade of Trokair is deep bulk — you're essentially paying for the cardboard. Don't expect that floor to move; there's no competitive demand pulling it upward.
