Sentry Oak
Creature — Treefolk Warrior
Defender
At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may clash with an opponent. If you win, this creature gets +2/+0 and loses defender until end of turn. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of their library, then puts that card on their choice of the top or bottom. A player wins if their card had a greater mana value.)

Sentry Oak lands as a 4/3 vigilance for five mana that immediately generates a 1/1 token, then keeps producing tokens every time it swings — solid on-board presence, but the rate is too slow for most Commander tables. It's a role-player in token-doubler or aristocrats shells, not a card you build around.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Sentry Oak is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive Legacy and Modern have no use for a five-mana creature with incremental token generation when those formats demand immediate, game-warping impact. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there Sentry Oak earns a spot only in dedicated token or go-wide strategies where each combat trigger feeds an anthem, doubler, or sacrifice outlet. Oathbreaker could support it in a white token shell, though the lower starting life total makes the slow build harder to sustain.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Sentry Oak sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to acquire, easy to cut without regret. Bulk creatures with narrow applications rarely climb in price unless a synergy breaks them out, and nothing on the horizon points that way for Sentry Oak.
