Sentinel of the Pearl Trident
Creature — Merfolk Soldier
Flash
When this creature enters, you may exile target historic permanent you control. If you do, return that card to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic.)

Sentinel of the Pearl Trident phases out a target legendary creature or Merfolk you control until your next turn, protecting it from removal, board wipes, and combat — then it comes back untapped. Five mana is steep for a one-shot blink effect, but the untapped return and phase-out precision make it a real tool in the right shell.

Sentinel of the Pearl Trident is a Commander card through and through — the format's singleton structure and legendary-matters themes give the phase-out effect real targets, and protecting a key commander or payoff creature from a board wipe is worth a slot in the right build. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's simply outclassed: five mana for a situational protection piece doesn't compete in faster, more efficient formats where cheaper counterspells and hexproof enablers do the same job without passing the turn. Vintage has no interest in it for the same reason at an even steeper opportunity cost.
