Select for Inspection card art
Select for Inspection bounces a tapped creature at instant speed for a single blue mana — clean, cheap tempo that replaces itself with a scry 1. It's narrow by design: useless against anything untapped, which keeps it out of most lists but makes it a perfect fit in decks that care about the scry or punish opponents for attacking.

In Commander, Select for Inspection is a niche include — the scry 1 and one-mana cost are appealing, but bouncing only tapped creatures means it can't answer the threats that actually kill you, and sorcery-speed bounce would be worse, not better. It finds a home in blue tempo or spellslinger decks that want cheap cantripping interaction and often see opponents swinging wide. In Pauper it's more competitive, where one-mana interaction that replaces itself has real standing in tempo and control shells. Legacy and Vintage have better options at every point on the axis, so it doesn't see play there. Modern and Pioneer are similar — the restriction is too steep when Brainstorm effects and unconditional bounce exist at comparable cost.

unknown tier

Price data for Select for Inspection isn't currently available, but as a common with a significant gameplay restriction it almost certainly sits below $0.50 in paper and near-bulk in digital. Pick it up without hesitation if it fits your deck — there's no financial consideration worth making here.
