Sedraxis Specter hits for 3 in the air, forces a discard on damage, and unearths itself for one last swing — all on a three-mana body. The effect is real, but a 3/2 dies to nearly everything at a table full of 4/4s, and one forced discard rarely breaks a Commander game open.

In Commander, Sedraxis Specter is a fair card in an unfair format — one discard on damage is modest when opponents draw seven a turn and refill constantly. It earns a slot in dedicated discard shells like Crosis or Nicol Bolas, but it's a cut candidate anywhere else. In Legacy and Vintage it's too slow and too fragile; Grief and Thoughtseize take the discard role at instant speed without needing to connect. Modern has outgrown it entirely — the format's threat density makes a vanilla 3/2 flier with no enters-the-battlefield effect a liability. Unearthing it for one final swing is a nice fallback in Commander, but it doesn't change the calculus in constructed formats where graveyard interaction is ubiquitous.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Sedraxis Specter is deep bulk — easy to pick up from any trade binder or a bargain bin. Demand is narrow enough that the price isn't going anywhere, so there's no urgency in either direction; grab it if the deck calls for it, ignore it otherwise.
