Secret Salvage card art
Secret Salvage resolves and you put every copy of the named card from your library straight to hand — no shuffling, no searching one at a time, just the whole package delivered at once. Five mana is steep, but in a deck built around a single nonbasic creature type like Athreos, God of Passage or Syr Konrad, the Grim, the card-advantage ceiling is absurd enough to justify it.

Rat King, Verminister

Rat King, Verminister

22.4% of decks · synergy 0.21

Rat King, Verminister rewards running the maximum count of a single Rat, so Secret Salvage does exactly what the deck wants: name your chosen Rat, dump the remaining copies into hand, and start flooding the board the same turn or next.

03
Marrow-Gnawer

Marrow-Gnawer

12.5% of decks · synergy 0.11

Marrow-Gnawer wants as many Rats in play as possible to generate exponential token production, and Secret Salvage functions as a one-card reload that refills your hand with the fuel Marrow-Gnawer needs to go wide before opponents stabilize.

Format Analysis

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Secret Salvage is legal across Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's almost exclusively a Commander card. In sixty-card formats the five-mana cost and the requirement to build around a playset of one card make it uncompetitive — you'd never run it in Modern or Legacy when cheaper, more consistent options exist. Commander is where the math flips: singleton rules mean opponents can't run the same card, but you can name your own redundant pieces and pull four or more copies to hand at once. Oathbreaker is a plausible home if your signature spell strategy leans on a repeated nonbasic permanent, but the raw ceiling is lower with fewer cards in the deck.

Price Context

Current price

$0.40 bulk tier

At $0.40, Secret Salvage is pure bulk — pick it up without a second thought if the deck calls for it. The price reflects its narrow application rather than power level; it doesn't have enough cross-format demand to climb, so expect it to stay in this range.
