Sea Scryer taps to add one blue mana — a mana dork that doubles as a Wizard, which is the entire reason it exists. In any deck that cares about Wizards on the battlefield, that type line earns its slot; everywhere else, it doesn't.

Azami, Lady of Scrolls
Azami, Lady of Scrolls turns every Wizard into a draw engine, so Sea Scryer pulls double duty: it funds your spells and draws you a card each turn cycle, making it a reliable piece of the tap-outlet chain Azami decks want to assemble.

Sea Scryer is a Commander card, full stop. In 99-card singleton, the Wizard type is payoff-dense enough — between Azami, Lady of Scrolls and other tribal synergies — that a mana-producing body has a real home. In Pauper it's technically legal but competes with Faerie staples and tempo threats that do more for one mana. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a vanilla one-mana blue tapper when fast mana exists. Play Sea Scryer in Commander Wizard builds; ignore it everywhere else.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Sea Scryer is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in without thinking about it. Demand is narrow enough that it won't climb, but it also doesn't need to: if you're building Azami, Lady of Scrolls, you're paying less for this than a sleeve.
