Scholar of Stars replaces itself when it enters — a 3/2 body plus a draw if you control an artifact is a clean two-for-one at four mana. Efficient enough for artifact-heavy Commander builds, too slow and underpowered for any competitive constructed format.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Scholar of Stars earns its slot in artifact-matters decks where the draw trigger is essentially guaranteed — think Breya, Etherium Shaper or Alibou, Ancient Witness shells where an artifact on board is a given. Outside of Commander, the rate just doesn't hold up: four mana for a 3/2 with a conditional cantrip is well below the efficiency bar in Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy, where the card sees no meaningful play. Pauper is the one other format worth mentioning — Scholar of Stars is legal and the cantrip is real value at common, though the format's faster threats crowd it out of serious consideration.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Scholar of Stars is deep bulk — you'll find it in common boxes or as throw-ins without effort. There's no pressure on that price; it's a functional but replaceable role-player with no spike history and no upcoming demand driver to watch.
