Schema Thief card art
Schema Thief copies an artifact your opponent creates — for free, on their turn — and that tempo advantage compounds fast in a format full of treasure tokens, Clues, and mana rocks. Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy turns every one of those free copies into an artifact-ETB trigger, making Schema Thief one of the highest-upside three-drops in the deck.

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy

65.3% of decks · synergy 0.64

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy cares about artifacts entering the battlefield under your control, so every free token Schema Thief copies off an opponent's artifact creation becomes a fresh trigger — treasure-heavy tables effectively become your personal engine room.

02
Felix Five-Boots

Felix Five-Boots

28.4% of decks · synergy 0.28

Felix Five-Boots grants your creatures with counters additional combat steps and evasion, and Schema Thief being a Rogue that accumulates +1/+1 counters means Felix can turn a board full of copied tokens into a lethal swing with minimal additional investment.

03
Rashmi and Ragavan

Rashmi and Ragavan

20.4% of decks · synergy 0.19

Rashmi and Ragavan generates its own stream of artifacts and spell-cast value, and Schema Thief slots in as a way to mirror whatever the table is building — turning opponents' mana acceleration into your own without spending cards.

oathbreaker

Schema Thief is a Commander card front to back — its design assumes a multiplayer table where artifact creation is frequent and diverse enough to make the copy trigger fire multiple times per round. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with far more efficient interaction and doesn't fit any established archetype. Oathbreaker can support it in the right shell, but the smaller table shrinks the number of targets. Play Schema Thief in Commander or not at all.

Price Context

Current price

$0.40 bulk tier

At $0.40, Schema Thief is firmly bulk, and the price reflects how narrowly it performs outside of dedicated artifact-commander decks. It's a low-risk pickup for any Gimbal or artifact-theft build, and there's no meaningful financial downside to grabbing a copy now.
