Savior of the Small card art
Savior of the Small turns every nontoken creature death into a +1/+1 counter on another creature — at instant speed, for free, with no mana trigger cost. A 2/2 flier for two mana that passively grows your board through attrition is a genuine engine in any small-creature strategy.

Commander is the natural home for Savior of the Small — four opponents means constant creature deaths, and a free trigger on every nontoken dying makes the card quietly enormous over a long game. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, it lacks the raw power level to compete; two mana for a 2/2 with a slow-accumulating effect doesn't match the pace of those environments. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for the same reason. Standard is the one constructed format where Savior of the Small can carve a niche if aggressive white weenie or counters synergies are in the environment, though it will always be a fringe pick rather than a staple.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Savior of the Small is deep bulk — you'll find it in a common box before you find it on any vendor's shortlist. The price is unlikely to move unless a dedicated counters commander in a popular set makes it a four-of staple somewhere, which its current design profile doesn't support.
