Saprazzan Legate enters the battlefield for free when an opponent plays an Island, then taps for blue mana — a 2/1 flash body that pays for itself before you spend a card. The catch is total dependence on your opponents: in a table with zero blue players, Saprazzan Legate never moves from your hand.

In Commander, Saprazzan Legate is a meta-read card — blue is the most-played color in the format, so at most tables you will flash this in for free at least once, usually on turn one or two off an opponent's fetch-into-Island. Legacy and Vintage are the only other legal formats, and neither wants a conditional 2/1 that needs an opponent to cooperate; those formats have actual free interaction, and Saprazzan Legate doesn't compete there. Commander is the only context where the free-cast trigger fires reliably enough to matter, and even then it slots into tempo or stax shells rather than as a general staple.

$0.38 bulk tier
At $0.38, Saprazzan Legate is deep bulk — you're not paying for power, you're paying for the niche. The price is stable at this floor; there's no pressure pushing it up, and the ceiling is capped by how narrow the free-cast condition is.
