Sanguimancy draws cards equal to your life total — massive refill potential in black — but costs life equal to the cards drawn, which means it punishes you hardest exactly when you need it most. Run it in decks that generate life as a resource, not ones that merely tolerate losing it.

Sanguimancy is a Commander card through and through — 100-card singleton formats with 40 starting life give it the room to breathe that 20-life formats simply don't. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's a liability: paying 10+ life to refuel is a fast path to losing the game before the cards matter. Vintage has the raw power density to occasionally abuse it, but far more efficient draw exists there. Commander is where Sanguimancy finds its actual role, slotting into black life-gain and life-payment strategies where a 20-card refill is a realistic outcome rather than a death sentence.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Sanguimancy sits firmly in bulk territory — buy a playset for under a dollar without thinking twice. Bulk rares with narrow homes tend to stay cheap, so don't expect the price to move unless a new commander pushes the archetype into the spotlight.
