Rusting Golem
Artifact Creature — Golem
Fading 5 (This creature enters with five fade counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a fade counter from it. If you can't, sacrifice it.)
Rusting Golem's power and toughness are each equal to the number of fade counters on it.

Rusting Golem enters the battlefield as a 0/0 and grows only as large as the number of artifacts you control — no artifacts, no stats. The ceiling is real in a dedicated artifact deck, but the floor is an embarrassing blank, and that variance makes it hard to justify over creatures with fixed power and toughness.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Rusting Golem is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander it belongs exclusively in artifact-tribal builds — Breya, Etherium Shaper or Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch shells can reliably pump it, but even there it competes with artifact creatures that bring ETB value or combo utility rather than raw stats. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a vanilla beater that requires board infrastructure to function. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's situation: it's playable in theory, irrelevant in practice.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Rusting Golem is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in a trade binder rather than a deck. Nothing about its demand trajectory suggests that changes.
