Rush of Knowledge draws cards equal to the highest converted mana cost among permanents you control — in any deck running 7+ CMC threats, that's often six, seven, or eight cards for five mana. Braids, Conjurer Adept decks in particular treat it as a reliable refuel, since the enormous permanents Braids cheats into play make the payoff absurd.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Braids, Conjurer Adept
Braids, Conjurer Adept puts massive permanents into play for free, and Rush of Knowledge scales directly off those permanents — dropping a Leviathan or Kraken before casting this routinely means drawing eight or more cards for five mana.

Eris, Roar of the Storm
Eris, Roar of the Storm cares about high-CMC spells and tokens, and Rush of Knowledge slots in as cheap, high-yield refueling — Eris herself is a 7-drop, so Rush frequently draws six cards the turn after she resolves.

Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle
Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle is an 8-CMC permanent once it wakes up, making Rush of Knowledge a five-mana draw-eight in the late game — a ceiling that justifies running it over most blue draw spells in this shell.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Rush of Knowledge is a Commander card through and through — the format's permanent-heavy boards and high average CMC create the conditions where it draws five to eight cards routinely. In Pauper it's legal and occasionally shows up in blue tempo or control shells that can land a big creature, but the format's low curve means the payoff is often just two or three cards, making it fringe at best. Legacy and Vintage have it on the legality list, but neither format wants a five-mana sorcery that draws a variable number of cards when faster, unconditional draw exists — it doesn't see meaningful play there. Commander is its home, and specifically high-CMC Commander: in decks with average CMC under 3.5, other draw spells are more reliable.

$0.30 bulk tier
At $0.30, Rush of Knowledge is firmly bulk — low enough that there's no financial friction to picking up copies. Bulk commons and uncommons at this price point don't move much in either direction, so buy it for the utility, not any expectation of appreciation.
