Runaway Boulder

In Commander, Runaway Boulder is a The Capitoline Triad card first and a generic beater second — 28% inclusion in that specific archetype tells the whole story. Outside dedicated synergy shells, four mana for a vanilla 6/3 trample doesn't clear the bar in a format where threats routinely do more on arrival. In constructed formats like Modern, Pioneer, and Standard, Runaway Boulder has never found a home; aggressive red decks want evasion or enters-the-battlefield value at this slot, and midrange shells have better options at every price point. Pauper is the one format where above-rate stats at common occasionally find fringe applications, but even there the competition is stiff.
