Rona, Disciple of Gix generates mana whenever you cast a historic spell — artifacts, legendaries, or sagas — which in the right shell translates to a free spell every other turn at minimum. The cost is that she does nothing alone; she needs a dense historic suite to pull her weight, and a two-mana 2/2 with no immediate effect is a liability if that density isn't there.

Commander is where Rona, Disciple of Gix earns her slot — legendary-dense artifact builds, especially Breya, Etherium Shaper or Urza, Lord High Artificer shells, can trigger her repeatedly in a single turn cycle and convert that mana into meaningful acceleration. In Modern and Pioneer she's a fringe piece at best, squeezed out by faster mana engines and the limited payoff for a two-mana body that asks you to build around it. Legacy and Vintage have the artifact density to abuse her, but also have Mox Opal and Mishra's Workshop, so she never registers as a priority inclusion. Oathbreaker gives her a niche home as a signature spell's value engine, but the format is obscure enough that the ceiling is low.
