Rise of Extus card art
Rise of Extus exiles a nonland permanent and returns a creature card from your graveyard to your hand — two effects on one card for four mana at sorcery speed. That rate is fine in Commander, awkward everywhere else.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Rise of Extus earns its slot in reanimator and graveyard-value decks that want removal doubling as recursion — the exile clause beats indestructible and prevents reanimation on the opponent's side, which matters. In Pauper it's legal but slow; four mana at sorcery speed is a steep ask when the format rewards efficiency. In Modern and Pioneer, it simply doesn't compete with cheaper, faster options that don't ask you to wait until turn four. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it at any price.

Price Context

Current price

$0.05 bulk tier

At $0.05, Rise of Extus is deep bulk — you're picking this out of a dollar box, not budgeting for it. Bulk commons at this price point don't move unless a combo or ruling changes their role, and nothing on the horizon does that here.
