Rise from the Tides converts your entire graveyard of instants and sorceries into a Zombie army in one shot — and at six mana, the board state it creates is routinely worth twice the investment. Geralf, the Fleshwright decks are the natural home, but any blue spell-slinger that dumps cards into the graveyard can close a game with it.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Geralf, the Fleshwright
Geralf, the Fleshwright mills instants and sorceries directly into the graveyard as a core loop, so Rise from the Tides arrives with a packed graveyard and routinely produces double-digit Zombies — nearly 60% of Geralf lists run it for exactly that reason.
The Emperor of Palamecia
The Emperor of Palamecia builds around casting and recurring spells, meaning the graveyard fills naturally over a long game, and Rise from the Tides converts that accumulation into a wide board that can close out a stalled table.

Octavia, Living Thesis
Octavia, Living Thesis cares about instants and sorceries in the graveyard as a threshold condition, so Rise from the Tides is doing double duty — padding that count while simultaneously producing an army to swing with.

Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy // Scion of Halaster
Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy // Scion of Halaster recasts spells from the graveyard, which means Rise from the Tides can fire more than once across a game, each cast finding a graveyard freshly restocked by Gale's own engine.

Talrand, Sky Summoner
Talrand, Sky Summoner is the quintessential mono-blue spellslinger, and Rise from the Tides slots in as the one-card army finisher for the turns when Drake tokens alone aren't enough to close the game.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Rise from the Tides is a Commander card through and through — the longer the game runs and the more spells cycle through graveyards, the more absurd the payoff gets, and a 60-card format simply doesn't give it the runway it needs to shine. It's legal in Modern and Pioneer, but neither format has the patience for a six-mana sorcery that asks you to have stocked your graveyard first; faster, more focused win conditions do the job cheaper. Legacy and Vintage are theoretically possible homes, but Rise from the Tides competes with format-defining nonsense at every mana value and never sees meaningful play there. Commander is where it belongs: multiplayer games run long, graveyards run deep, and a single cast can produce enough Zombies to end a table.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Rise from the Tides is deep bulk — you're essentially picking it up for free out of a dollar bin or as throw-in. There's no meaningful price floor to worry about; it's a casual staple with wide enough print runs that it will stay at this price tier indefinitely.
