Rise // Fall gives you a reanimation effect and a discard-based hand disruption spell on a single card — two relevant modes that both pull ahead on resources. The price of admission is a Dimir mana requirement for each half, so it only belongs in decks that can reliably cast both.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Rise // Fall earns its slot in Dimir and Grixis reanimator shells where the Rise half rebuys a key creature from any graveyard and Fall strips an opponent's best card at instant speed — the combination of both modes on one card is the entire argument for running it. Legacy and Vintage have access to faster, more broken discard and reanimation payoffs, so Rise // Fall rarely competes there. Modern is legal but the card sees essentially no play — Persist and Persist-adjacent reanimation lines outclass the Rise half, and Thoughtseize makes Fall look timid. Oathbreaker is the other Commander-adjacent format where it can pull real weight, again specifically in black-blue shells that want both effects.

Price Context
Current price
$0.33 bulk tier
At $0.33, Rise // Fall is firmly bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a two-mode spell with genuine Commander utility. Bulk dual-faced spells at this price point rarely spike unless a deck archetype goes mainstream, so expect it to stay in this range.
