Riot Gear is a two-mana Equipment that grants +0/+2 and toughness-matters text — cheap to cast, cheaper to equip, and almost never worth a slot. The effect is too narrow and the stat boost too small to compete with the Equipment staples that actually win games.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Riot Gear is a fringe inclusion at best — toughness buffs only matter in dedicated Doran, the Siege Tower or High Alert shells, and even there stronger options exist. Pauper is where Riot Gear is most plausible: the format's lower power ceiling makes a zero-equip-cost body buff slightly more relevant in aggressive or voltron commons lists. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, it doesn't see play; the Equipment landscape is dominated by cards that generate immediate card advantage or enable kills. Riot Gear is legal everywhere that matters, but legality and playability aren't the same thing.

Price Context
Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Riot Gear sits firmly in bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the card. That price is stable simply because demand is nearly zero, so don't expect movement in either direction.
