Righteousness puts +7/+7 on a blocking creature for one white mana — an absurd combat trick that kills the attacker and keeps your blocker alive. The catch is that it only works on blockers, which limits it to reactive use and makes it dead in your hand when you're the aggressor.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Righteousness sees essentially no competitive play in any format, and Commander is no exception. One-mana tricks that require you to be blocking are too narrow for a format where games are decided by card advantage and combo lines, not combat math — Righteousness saves one creature once and does nothing else. In Legacy or Vintage, white has access to actual staples and the combat environment is too fast for a reactive pump spell to matter. Modern and Pioneer have moved past this effect entirely. It's legal everywhere it could matter, but legal and playable are very different things.

Price Context
Current price
$0.39 bulk tier
At $0.39, Righteousness is bulk — priced exactly where a card with this narrow a use case belongs. Don't expect that to move; there's no competitive demand pulling it up.
