Rhox Bodyguard enters with a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control that already has a counter — a board-wide pump that scales with the number of counters already in play. Five mana for a 3/3 is a steep rate, and this effect only pulls its weight in dedicated counters decks where the payoff is immediate.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Rhox Bodyguard is a fringe Commander piece at best — it belongs in Atraxa, Praetors' Voice or Hamza, Guardian of Arashin shells where the board is already dense with +1/+1 counters and the pump lands across four or five creatures at once. Outside of that context, five mana for a 3/3 that does nothing the turn opponents have a clean board is unplayable. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage, it doesn't register — those formats move faster than a sorcery-speed ETB pump can matter. Pauper is the one format where a bulk common has room to breathe, but even there the cost-to-body ratio makes it a long shot over cheaper threats.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Rhox Bodyguard is deep bulk — you're not making a financial decision here, you're making a deckbuilding one. The price reflects the card's narrow application: it holds no value outside counters synergy, and that ceiling isn't going up.
