Revival // Revenge does two distinct jobs on one card: Revival reanimates any creature with mana value 3 or less at instant speed, and Revenge doubles your life total while halving an opponent's — a combination that punishes drain-heavy commanders like Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose and fuels sacrifice loops under Astarion, the Decadent. The cost is real: Revival's ceiling is capped at three mana value, which rules out most haymakers, and Revenge's seven-mana asking price means you're usually choosing one half per game.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Astarion, the Decadent
Astarion, the Decadent runs a sacrifice-and-drain engine that constantly dumps low-cost creatures into the graveyard, and Revival // Revenge's bottom half is a recurring elevator for any piece in that loop that costs three or less.
Sorin of House Markov
Sorin of House Markov builds toward a life-total-matters payoff, and Revival // Revenge earns its slot twice over — the instant-speed reanimation recovers a vampiric piece on the opponent's end step, while Revenge's life-doubling can push the total high enough to trigger Sorin's most punishing effects.

Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant
Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant cares about hitting 111 life, and the Revenge half of Revival // Revenge is one of the most mana-efficient life-doubling effects available, capable of jumping a high total into winning range in a single cast.

Liesa, Shroud of Dusk
Liesa, Shroud of Dusk bleeds everyone's life total as a tax, so the life-gap that Revenge creates — doubling yours while cutting an opponent's — is especially punishing under her command. Revival's instant-speed recursion also lets you recover a key piece after Liesa's own payment costs start to accumulate.

Kambal, Consul of Allocation
Kambal, Consul of Allocation drains opponents every time they cast noncreature spells, steadily inflating your life total; Revival // Revenge's Revenge half converts that banked life into a kill-range gap without needing any other setup.
Format Analysis

Revival // Revenge is a Commander card first and foremost — the split design rewards decks that can exploit both halves across a long game, and the 40-life starting total makes Revenge's life-manipulation swing harder than it ever would in a 20-life format. In Modern and Pioneer it sees essentially no competitive play; instant-speed reanimation capped at three mana value is too narrow when dedicated reanimator shells want to cheat out six- and seven-drops, and seven mana for a life-swap is simply too slow. Legacy and Vintage offer no reason to run it either — faster and more flexible options exist at every point on the curve. Oathbreaker shares Commander's 20-life floor, which at least makes the Revenge half more meaningful, but the card still belongs in 100-card singleton where the flexibility of two modes on one slot is worth the most.

Current price
$0.58 bulk tier
At $0.58, Revival // Revenge sits firmly in bulk territory, which is accurate — it's a role-player, not a staple, and demand stays narrow enough that the price is unlikely to climb without a new commander that specifically rewards both halves. It's an easy inclusion at this price in any Orzhov life-matters build; don't pay more than a dollar for it.
