Return Triumphant card art
Return Triumphant puts a creature from your graveyard directly onto the battlefield — not your hand — and tacks on a +1/+1 counter if you control a Demon or Devil, making it a reanimation spell that also scales a threat. At one white mana, the ceiling is absurdly high for the cost, but the Demon or Devil clause means you're paying a deckbuilding tax to unlock the full version.

Victor, Valgavoth's Seneschal generates Imp tokens and rewards you for having Demons and Devils in play, so Return Triumphant almost always enters with the counter while also feeding Victor's aristocrats-style triggers — it's doing double duty in that shell.

In Commander, Return Triumphant is a role-player rather than a staple — it slots cleanly into Demon and Devil tribal builds where the counter condition is trivially met, but outside that niche it's just a one-mana reanimate-to-battlefield effect competing against Animate Dead and Reanimate for the same slot. In competitive 1v1 formats like Modern and Legacy, reanimation at this mana cost is genuinely powerful, but the restriction to creatures already in your graveyard and the tribal rider make it a narrow fit compared to unconditional options. Pauper is where Return Triumphant could carve out a real niche — one-mana battlefield reanimation at common is rare, and the format's creature-dense graveyards make the clause easier to satisfy than it looks.

$0.18 bulk tier

At $0.18, Return Triumphant is deep bulk — pick up as many as you need without a second thought. Bulk commons rarely climb unless they break a format, and nothing about the current metagame suggests that's coming.
