Replication Technique copies any artifact or creature you control for five mana — a clean one-for-one doubling effect that asks no setup and leaves a token on board. It's not Doubling Season, but where Doubling Season requires a permanent and a steady stream of triggers, Replication Technique is a single-use surgical strike; Rootha, Mastering the Moment turns that single use into two, which is where the card goes from solid to dangerous.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Rootha, Mastering the Moment
Rootha, Mastering the Moment can bounce Replication Technique back to hand and recast it, effectively copying any artifact or creature twice off a single card — the interaction is so reliable that Replication Technique shows up in over half of all Rootha lists.

Hidetsugu and Kairi
Hidetsugu and Kairi wants to copy itself, and Replication Technique delivers a second legend with a fresh enter-the-battlefield trigger, doubling the damage output and the top-of-library manipulation in a single spell.

Adrix and Nev, Twincasters
Adrix and Nev, Twincasters doubles every token created, so the copy Replication Technique produces immediately becomes two — any artifact or creature worth copying once is suddenly worth copying for free a second time.

Omo, Queen of Vesuva
Omo, Queen of Vesuva proliferates counters across multiple permanent types, and Replication Technique copies a counter-laden artifact or creature to spread that investment further, accelerating the counter engine without spending additional resource slots.

Muddle, the Ever-Changing
Muddle, the Ever-Changing cares about tokens and instants, and Replication Technique slots in as flexible token generation that scales with whatever your most threatening permanent happens to be at the moment of casting.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Replication Technique is a Commander card through and through — five mana is too slow for Legacy and Vintage, where the spell is technically legal but never played, and it doesn't exist in Modern, Pioneer, or Standard at all. In Commander, the singleton rule makes any effect that generates an additional copy of a key permanent disproportionately powerful, and Replication Technique fills that role cleanly at instant speed. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where it has real application, particularly in spellslinger builds that want to duplicate a planeswalker or a critical artifact without committing to an enchantment.

$0.37 bulk tier
At $0.37, Replication Technique is bulk — easy to pick up, easy to trade for, and unlikely to spike unless a future commander makes it a centerpiece combo piece. The price is stable given its niche role; it won't appreciate, but it also won't cost you anything to slot into a deck that wants it.
