Reckoner Bankbuster card art
Reckoner Bankbuster enters with three charge counters, draws a card each time you remove one, and eventually cashes in as a Pilot token — three cards and a body for two mana is absurd value. The cost is speed: you need to spend mana activating it over multiple turns, which is why it slots cleanly alongside synergy pieces like Coretapper (to accelerate the drain) rather than into decks that need answers immediately, and why Balthier and Fran shells treat it as a cornerstone rather than a flex slot.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Balthier and Fran

Balthier and Fran

68.7% of decks · synergy 0.68

Balthier and Fran rewards playing Vehicles and artifact creatures together, and Reckoner Bankbuster supplies both — first as a crewable Vehicle generating card draw, then as a Pilot token that crews other Vehicles. Nearly 69% of Balthier and Fran decks run it, which is the clearest signal of how naturally it fits the engine.

02
Greasefang, Okiba Boss

Greasefang, Okiba Boss

59.8% of decks · synergy 0.59

Greasefang, Okiba Boss needs Vehicles in the graveyard and on the battlefield, and Reckoner Bankbuster is cheap enough to deploy early while drawing cards that accelerate finding Greasefang. The Vehicle type alone justifies the slot; the card draw is a bonus.

03
Kolodin, Triumph Caster

Kolodin, Triumph Caster

51.6% of decks · synergy 0.50

Kolodin, Triumph Caster triggers off artifact and creature tokens, and the Pilot token from a fully drained Reckoner Bankbuster feeds that gameplan directly. The charge-counter drain also pairs with counter-manipulation effects Kolodin decks typically run.

04
Kotori, Pilot Prodigy

Kotori, Pilot Prodigy

46.0% of decks · synergy 0.43

Kotori, Pilot Prodigy gives Vehicles a crew cost of 1 and puts +1/+1 counters on them when they attack, so Reckoner Bankbuster becomes an early draw engine that also grows into a meaningful attacker under Kotori's buff. The Pilot token it generates can crew other Vehicles, keeping the whole chain moving.

05
Shorikai, Genesis Engine

Shorikai, Genesis Engine

31.3% of decks · synergy 0.28

Shorikai, Genesis Engine is a Vehicle commander that also produces Pilot tokens, so Reckoner Bankbuster doubles up on both halves of that identity — extra card draw while the counters last, then another Pilot to crew Shorikai. Even at 31% inclusion it's one of the most consistent draw pieces in the archetype.

Format Analysis

commander

oathbreaker

Reckoner Bankbuster is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is where it earns its reputation. In competitive 60-card formats it has largely aged out — Modern and Pioneer have moved faster, and two mana for a slow draw engine doesn't compete with the cantrips and looting effects available there. In Commander the math flips: three cards over three turns at two mana is well above rate, the Pilot token adds a body the game can use, and the artifact type plugs into Vehicle, artifact, and token synergies across dozens of archetypes. Oathbreaker can leverage it similarly in the right shell, but Commander is the format that actually wants what Reckoner Bankbuster offers.

Current price

$0.57 bulk tier

At $0.57, Reckoner Bankbuster is bulk by price but not by function — it's one of the most efficient draw engines available at that cost in Commander. Bulk rares with genuine multi-archetype demand tend to stay in this range rather than crater further, so it's a straightforward pickup for any Vehicle or artifact deck.
