Ravenous Vampire grows on upkeep by sacrificing a creature you control, and it recoupes that cost with a life drain trigger — the longer it survives, the larger and more threatening it becomes. It's a payoff for aristocrats and sacrifice strategies, not a standalone threat.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is the natural home for Ravenous Vampire — the game runs long enough for the upkeep trigger to compound into a genuine threat, and sacrifice synergies are plentiful in Mardu colors. In Legacy and Vintage, it's technically legal but completely outclassed; four mana for a 4/4 that requires a creature sacrifice is nowhere near competitive in those formats. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander 60-card-adjacent format where it sees fringe play, strictly in sacrifice shells where the drain and growth axes actually have time to matter.

Price Context
Current price
$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Ravenous Vampire is deep bulk — you're essentially paying for the cardboard. Bulk rares in narrow archetypes tend to stay at this floor unless a new commander pushes heavy demand for the exact type or mechanic, so don't expect movement.
