Ransack lets you dig five cards deep and bury two of them — instant-speed library disruption stapled to a personal filter. Five mana is the honest cost of that flexibility, and in Commander it's a fair rate.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Ransack earns its slot: instant-speed hand sculpting is always useful, and the ability to bury two cards from an opponent's top-five is genuine disruption against tutors and topdeck-dependent strategies. Legacy and Vintage are legal formats for Ransack, but those formats demand interaction that costs one or two mana, not five — it simply doesn't make the cut in either. Outside of Commander and Oathbreaker, the card has no competitive home.

Price Context
Current price
$0.50 bulk tier
At $0.50, Ransack is deep bulk — low barrier to try, low barrier to cut. The price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Commander deck puts instant-speed library manipulation back in the conversation.
