Rampaging Brontodon card art
Rampaging Brontodon is a 9/9 trampler for seven mana — the stats are real, but seven is a lot to ask in a format where the competition at that slot closes games outright. Outside of Dinosaur tribal, where Pantlaza, Sun-Favored can cascade into it for free, it rarely earns its slot.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Pantlaza, Sun-Favored

Pantlaza, Sun-Favored

41.5% of decks · synergy 0.35

Pantlaza, Sun-Favored's discover trigger puts Rampaging Brontodon into play for free off any higher-cost Dinosaur, turning a clunky seven-drop into a free 9/9 with trample that triggers another discover cascade.

02
Gishath, Sun's Avatar

Gishath, Sun's Avatar

31.2% of decks · synergy 0.25

Gishath, Sun's Avatar cheats mana costs entirely — when a combat hit flips Rampaging Brontodon off the top, a 9/9 trample body lands without spending a single mana.

Owen Grady, Raptor Trainer // Blue, Loyal Raptor

25.6% of decks · synergy 0.25

Owen Grady, Raptor Trainer // Blue, Loyal Raptor wants a deep Dinosaur roster to maximize counters and synergies, and Rampaging Brontodon's raw size makes it a credible top-end threat in that count-your-Dinosaurs strategy.

In Commander, Rampaging Brontodon is a Dinosaur-tribal card first and a standalone threat a distant second — it belongs in Pantlaza or Gishath decks specifically, not general green stompy shells. In competitive Constructed formats like Modern and Pioneer it has never been relevant; seven mana for a vanilla-adjacent creature doesn't clear the bar those formats set. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for the same reason, with power-level ceilings Rampaging Brontodon can't reach. Oathbreaker is the one fringe case where a Dinosaur-themed build might slot it in for the same tribal reasons as Commander.

$0.35 bulk tier

At $0.35, Rampaging Brontodon is bulk — pick it up without hesitation if you need it. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications don't appreciate, so there's no reason to hold multiples.
