Rally the Ancestors card art
Rally the Ancestors returns every creature with mana value X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield simultaneously — a board-refilling instant that can end games on the spot. The catch is real: those creatures are exiled at the beginning of your next upkeep, so you need to win the turn you cast it or extract value through sacrifice and death triggers before the exile clause fires.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01

Polukranos Reborn

40.6% of decks · synergy 0.40

Polukranos Reborn decks are stacked with large, enter-the-battlefield creatures that die and need to come back, and Rally the Ancestors delivers exactly that at instant speed — letting you rebuild a board of threats mid-combat or in response to a wipe. The 40% inclusion rate reflects how naturally the card fits a strategy that already wants creatures in the graveyard.

02
Amalia Benavides Aguirre

Amalia Benavides Aguirre

12.0% of decks · synergy 0.11

Amalia Benavides Aguirre's explore-and-lifegain engine generates a constant stream of creatures hitting the graveyard, and Rally the Ancestors converts that pile into a lethal re-trigger of Amalia's board-wipe ability when you hit exactly 20 power. It's one of the cleanest combo enablers in the deck.

03
Athreos, God of Passage

Athreos, God of Passage

7.9% of decks · synergy 0.07

Athreos, God of Passage already punishes opponents for letting creatures die, and Rally the Ancestors short-circuits the whole negotiation by bypassing Athreos entirely and returning the creatures yourself. Cast it at end of turn, swing for lethal, and let the exile trigger clean up what the combat step didn't.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Commander is where Rally the Ancestors does its best work — 100-card decks fill graveyards fast, sacrifice synergies are everywhere, and the upkeep exile clause matters far less when you only need one turn to win. In Pioneer and Modern it sees fringe play in dedicated aristocrats shells that can sacrifice the returned creatures before the exile fires, turning the drawback into a non-issue. Legacy and Vintage have faster, more efficient reanimation options, so Rally the Ancestors rarely competes there. Oathbreaker gives it the same graveyard-rich environment as Commander, and any spellbook that generates death triggers will find it useful.
